Membership Costs

CostThe financial obligations of every member help support Beta Theta Pi and offers tangible benefits to more than 6,000 undergraduates, 120,000 alumni members and over 200 members and alumni of the Zeta Eta chapter.

Dues at Beta Theta Pi are very comparable to what other fraternity members pay at San Jose State. These dues help cover the costs of social activities, Interfraternity Council (IFC) dues, brotherhood retreats and recruitment events. Dues also help offset chapter operation costs and General Fraternity dues and support fees.

One-Time Fees

Pledge Fee: $119.00

Initiation Fee: $250.00

Total: $369.00/pledge semester ÷ 4 months = $92.25/month.

Membership Dues / Insurance

General Fraternity Dues: $125.00/year ($62.50 per semester)

Heritage Fee: $15.00/year ($7.50 per semester)

Insurance Premium: $120.00/year ($60.00 per semester)

Chapter Dues: $540.00/year ($270.00 per semester)

Total: $800.00/year ÷ 8 months (4 months/semester) = $100.00/month.

What is the Pledge Fee?

The pledge fee is a one-time charge assessed upon pledging the Fraternity. This covers the cost of the pledge manual (Son of the Stars), song book, CD and risk management resources.

What is the Initiation Fee?

The initiation fee is a one-time charge assessed upon initiation into the Fraternity. This covers the cost of the membership shingle, badge and lifetime subscription to The Beta Theta Pi magazine.

What are General Fraternity dues?

General Fraternity dues are assessed to every undergraduate member to fund education resources, administrative support and the day-to-day operation of the General Fraternity.

What is the Heritage Fee?

The Heritage Fund was established for the maintenance and care of the Administrative Office (Brennan Hall) and grounds built in Oxford, Ohio, in 1994. The $3.1 million facility was paid for through the generosity of alumni contributions.

What is the Insurance Premium?

Beta Theta Pi maintains a Fraternity-wide liability insurance policy with superior legal coverage and risk management support. The Fraternity's annual insurance fee is one of the lowest in the industry.

What are Chapter Dues?

Chapter dues help offset the costs for chapter events and activities, operational expenses and Interfraternity Council (IFC) dues. Zeta Eta has one of the lowest membership dues on campus.
